Ida Johnson, LCSW-C
Welcome to Agapae Counseling! I am Ida and I am glad you are here.
Agapae Counseling is founded on the belief that everyone deserves to feel loved and accepted. Agapae is the plural form of “agape,” the Greek word for love, and the love used in the Bible to describe God’s love for humanity. I strive to embrace clients with acceptance for all their parts and embrace them with love.
My therapeutic approach (and attire) is typically casual and focused on creating a safe space for to explore ones inner workings and their external world. Maybe you are struggling with something big or maybe you are just in a rut. We have all been there and recognizing the need to adjust is the first part. A person begins to heal the moment we feel heard and I hope that we can start that healing process together. I have experience working with individuals as young as 4 years old up to the elderly population. I primarily work with adolescences into adulthood.
I love to draw from and utilize my own faith but I am also able to meet a person where they are in their own faith and beliefs. Loving a person, does not mean always agreeing.
I received my bachelor’s in psychology from Salisbury University in 2007 and my Masters of Social Work in 2011 from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. I have been a working in the therapy world since 2013 and prior to therapy, I was with the Anne Arundel Department of Social Services working to help preserve families.
The formal trainings that guide my therapy practice include trauma informed therapy, IFS, client centered, DBT, and play therapy techniques. I am currently training for EMDR and hope to provide those services soon.
On a personal side of things, I am a mom of 4, a wife, a sister, a daughter, a friend. I have lived in Anne Arundel County my entire life, specifically southern Anne Arundel County. I love being able to raise my children in this community.
